1989 G Ford Escort XR3i Cabriolet in Mercury Grey with RS Turbo Alloys & 12 Months MOT

This is a very low mileage example in a really desirable colour too! It boasts a great spec with remote central locking, electric windows, electric roof, heated screen etc etc

Having just had a new MOT it is a fair, solid example however do bear in mind that this car is over 30 years old and would benefit from further work to make perfect, depending on what standard you’re looking for!

Bodywork wise it’s decent. It has had some previous paintwork (as you’d expect) but all good, but to freshen up you may want to smart repair a small blister on the drivers side rear arch and the same on the lip of the bonnet. The roof seems watertight, however is shabby around the edges and you might want to replace the skin at some point. The electric roof mechanism doesn’t currently work, we believe it needs a motor but operates manually without issues.

The interior has had some leather ‘Recaro style’ (not genuine Recaro) front seats fitted which you may want to change back. Original seats seem very inexpensive to buy. It has had some aftermarket speakers fitted and has some speaker covers missing.

It drives well with no major dramas, however does occasionally pop out of reverse (not always) but can easily be driven without issues. We believe this may be just a gearbox mount, but please check for yourself to be sure.

It starts ok but I feel it will benefit from a new battery, the MOT had a few minor advisories (mainly tyres and bushes) but essentially is good to go!

I’ve tried to paint a clear picture for you, again being over 30 years old it’s not perfect, and everyone will differ in the standard they hope for,but with its new MOT it’s a great solid base to improve and add massive value to this rapidly appreciating modern classic ‘Fast Ford’.
